Escape isnt a completely terrible game and is playable for someone looking for that universe until Dead Island 2, but its really not worth paying full price for. The game looks decent but relies on weird or old mechanics to make it all work, youd be much better off playing Dead Island 1.

Escape Dead Island Review (GameWatcher)

From GameWatcher.com: Please Deep Silver, give us a third person cel-shaded Dead Island spin-off! said no one ever. Yes, Im starting this review on a mean note. When asked to review Escape Dead Island my first thought was is that the MOBA? and my second thought was hell no, but I need to eat this month so here I am with very low expectations. Dead Island was fun in co-op and Dead Island 2 is looking great but anything else in the series I couldnt care less about, particularly a single-player-only last-gen-only comic book-style survival horror. Which made it all the more surprising that I actually enjoyed myself playing Escape Dead Island. Well, at the start."

EG: "Zombies can cover a multitude of sins. They're famously dim-witted, so bargain basement AI and wonky pathfinding is easily masked inside the fiction. And they're always falling to bits, so it doesn't really matter if textures and models are crude. Whoever saw an immaculate zombie?"

Avoiderdragon: The Dead Island series is confusing in terms of whether it should be liked or hated. The first game was actually pretty good despite its faults, and Dead Island Riptide was much of the same in a different setting. While were still waiting for the release of Dead Island 2, it seems like Deep Silver thought of releasing yet another game to fill the gap and get more audiences into the series. What came out of it is questionable though.
